My Specialties
Here’s what I feel personally confident in treating from my professional clinical experience & personal healing journey:
Your Concerns,
MANY CONCERNS IN LIFE BRING YOU TO SEEK THERAPY.
What you are experiencing in life…
→ What I am treating in therapy…
-
The toggles below each grouping detail how I conceptualize progressing that set of concerns from immediate crisis back towards healthy living through therapy.
Please consider the buttons Ctrl+F to try to search for where your personal concern may fall amongst these groupings.
“ I AM SEEKING THERAPY NOW BECAUSE… ”
“ MY EMOTIONS ARE:
OVERWHELMING, COMPLEX, & CONFUSING,
COMPELLING UNDESIRABLE ACTIONS & CONSEQUENCES,
UNCOMFORTABLE,
&/or SIMPLY UNCLEAR. ”
“I ineffectively express my emotions. I may ignore & suppress them, not understand them very well. Then, I may unload my emotions (into others &/or habits that are immediately relieving), leading to a sense of guilt, shame, defeat, isolation, & steady tension. I can’t, am scared of, or just really don’t like, feeling my emotions.”
→ emotional expression & regulation: anger, fear, shame, guilt
-
Emotions are a natural & intuitive - intelligent & informative - mechanism our body uses to communicate its experience. Together through therapy, we re-establish that natural mental relationship with your emotional experiences by:
curbing undesirable expressions of emotional overwhelm & discomfort — such as reactive behaviors & intrusive thought patterns,
identifying, practicing, & refining coping behaviors chosen to adequately release overwhelming waves of emotional experience,
spending time patiently witnessing, curiously exploring, & compassionately understanding what emotions are being expressed & why,
developing your intuitive sense & acceptance of how each emotion wants to be expressed through & released by you,
solidifying your emotional intuition & coping pattern across varied situations over time.
“ I AM UNHAPPY WITH:
MYSELF,
MY DAY-TO-DAY EXPERIENCE,
MY RELATIONSHIPS,
&/OR THE WORLD. ”
“…so much so that it can be a struggle to get up in the morning, complete daily tasks, uphold routines & roles, & reach personal goals.”
“What’s the point?” is a common, compelling thought/feeling each day.
→ depression, suicidal thinking, sadness, hopelessness, loneliness, low motivation
-
The opposite of depression is - not happiness, but - expression. Together through therapy, we re-connect with your body’s natural way to express & release heavy mental-emotional experiences by:
curbing undesirable behavior patterns driven by an intensity of these concerns,
then considering & choosing simple desired actions you will follow through on to remember what you are capable of,
recognizing & then making behavior changes & mental choices that directly shift your situation &/or your perspective:
changing the makeup of your life — routine, relationships, settings, career, etc. — to align more with your experiential definition of happiness,
revisiting & challenging your currently unhappy lens of life, & possibly redefining your concept of a happy life,
reflecting on & re-establishing a solid perspective of hope in your/the future,
identifying & surrendering to your natural ways to express & release heaviness & sadness with presence & rest,
developing a habit of mindful acceptance & compassionate presence with uncontrollable lows in situations, mood, & energy,
fostering a respect & gratitude for the natural, necessary cycles of rest & lulls in life,
choosing & refining your effective methods to cope with these concerns each day so that you stay getting up each morning:
refocusing your thoughts: emphasizing moments of joy & connection, & recognizing your effort & progress,
having an attitude of gratitude, no matter what,
scheduling joy: from carving out time for what &/or who we love to choosing regular moments to simply appreciate what is,
developing & leaning on your chosen support network for regular: relational connection, emotional presence, & inspiration,
implementing physical activity into your routine to regularly inspire & energize you,
clarifying & solidifying a fulfilling sense of self & direction in life over time.
“ I AM SO DEVASTATED BY LOSS,
I CAN’T STAND HOW MUCH IT HURTS. ”
“…so much so that it can be a struggle to get up in the morning, complete daily tasks, uphold routines & roles, & reach personal goals because the loss can feel like spontaneous, potent moments of a breathless, deeply unfurling thread of despair that I sometimes just don’t know what to do with when it’s triggered. Since the loss, I am struggling to feel like I’m moving forward in life — so much of the adjustment was unanticipated/hard, & the feelings of loss can be so sudden & so strong.”
→ grief, heartbreak, relationship endings, loss of meaning
-
What begins, ends. Loss is natural. And then through denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, & meaning-making, you cycle in your own way. Together through therapy, we focus on your relationship to this loss, processing & adjusting to life afterwards by…
compassionately & thoughtfully navigating the crisis, with its repercussive losses or subsequent necessary/natural changes,
reflecting on what it means for you & feels like to you each day, now being without who/what was lost,
leaning on your chosen support network for regular: relational connection, emotional presence, & inspiration,
regulating intense emotional experiences & reactions:
curbing undesirable expressions of emotional overwhelm & discomfort— such as reactive behaviors & intrusive thought patterns,
learning with grace over time & patience each time what can trigger emotions (& overwhelm), & practicing staying present,
spending time patiently witnessing, curiously exploring, & compassionately understanding what emotions are being expressed & why,
identifying, practicing, & refining desired coping behaviors chosen to adequately release overwhelming waves of emotional experience,
considering expressive art modalities,
solidifying your emotional intuition & mindful coping behavior pattern across varied situations over time,
knowing & gradually accepting what is not in your control,
reaching your desired extent of understanding the unfolding events,
coming to terms with “what if’s”,
remembering & celebrating who/what was lost, their meaning in & what aspects of them remain in your life,
grieving — whatever that means for you,
developing your own regular rituals honoring & connecting with who/what was lost if helpful,
over time, developing new meaning in or a vision of life without who/what was lost,
clarifying & solidifying a fulfilling sense of self & direction in life over time without who/what was lost,
reflecting on & re-establishing a solid perspective of hope & reason to live in the future.
“ I JUST CAN’T FEEL SAFE OR AT EASE.
THE STRESSES & TRAUMAS I CARRY THROUGH EACH DAY OF LIFE WEIGH HEAVY IN MY MIND, HEART, & BODY. ”
“…so much so that it can be a struggle to get up in the morning, complete daily tasks, uphold routines & roles, & reach personal goals because there are so many layers of mental & emotional processing I am actively navigating each moment on conscious & subconscious levels. Sometimes I just disconnect from the present moment because of my unprocessed/actively processing stresses/traumas.”
→ trauma, daily stress, life transition, relationship wounds, dissociation
-
The body has an intuitive response mechanism when we endure trauma — it stores overwhelming strain in our subconscious memory for long-term, digestible processing. (And then, the stressful experiences our subconscious carries echoes in present-day moments to remind us what needs to heal, while in so doing, dissociates us.)
Seeking therapy now suggests you may be ready to return to & process some of the burdens your subconscious is safe-keeping of past experiences. Together through therapy, we align with your body’s intuitive response mechanism &…
prioritize turning towards practices, spaces, & relationships that offer physical & emotional safety & consistency,
& effectively turn away from where & who is/has been unsafe,
develop nervous system attunement & regulation practices,
allow your subconscious memory of past events to present naturally while:
applying emotion regulation skills, grounding you in your body,
learning, understanding, & addressing triggers,
re-processing how you feel & think about what happened,
reinforce the stabilizing factors in your life,
identifying what is within your control to ease your current strain,
reframing what is not in your control to sustain hope & motivation,
& empowering you to continue to move forward through the hardships you are carrying with you each day.
“ MY MIND IS OVERWHELMED, UNSTEADY, UNCLEAR, & INSECURE. ”
“Worry is on my mind, anxiety is in my body. I’m struggling with believing I can handle what I feel in my mind & body, much less what is happening in my life — worse less, both at the same time. My sense of self is shaky because of this (&/or other past-current stresses-traumas).”
→ anxiety, overwhelm, insecurity, low self-esteem
“ AN ASPECT OF MY IDENTITY EXPERIENCE HAS BECOME A NEW, DEVELOPING, OR HEAVY FOCUS ”:
“My identity is changing” or
“My identity is the reason stress/trauma is present”
“I feel a strain that is hard to influence or control, a dissonance of dissatisfaction with & resentment toward parts of who I am, my circumstances, &/or the relational & societal (systematic) ways of being that sustain shame, guilt, separation, & oppression. In our worldwide context today, it can be a struggle to get up in the morning, complete daily tasks, uphold routines & roles, & reach personal goals because there are so many layers of ways we, as humanity, misunderstand & neglect each other embedded in our systems of living.”
→ identity issues: gender, sexuality, ethnicity/race, ability, age, citizenship, socioeconomic status, spirituality
“ MY MIND & BODY CANNOT SEEM TO REST. ”
“My mind moves quickly, with so many ideas & thoughts. I have all this energy I don’t know what to do with. I’m restless, & can be compulsive in my behaviors.”
→ mania, can't rest, intrusive thinking, risky behaviors
“ MY MIND STRUGGLES WITH SEEING BEYOND FEAR. ”
“I’m unsure of/afraid of my reality, mistrustful of others.”
&/or
“This way of viewing & responding to reality relieves my fears”.
→ psychosis, paranoia, delusional/distorted thinking, obsessions
“ MY BEHAVIORS NEED TO CHANGE. ”
“I have compelling habits that bring undesirable consequences & risks. I can’t help myself to stop sometimes, but I want to. ”
→ behaviors: substance use, self-harm, addictive patterns, compulsions, codependency
“ I NEED NEW SKILLS & PERSPECTIVES TO IMPROVE MYSELF — TO EXPERIENCE HEALTH & FULFILLING LIVING. ”
“I’m struggling to move forward with clear, hopeful direction because I’m struggling with (any of):
seeing beyond my immediate concern,
discerning & choosing long-term fixes over immediate, temporary relief,
maintaining healthy dynamics in desired relationships,
making consistent, conscious, thoughtful choices in my daily lifestyle for my health & well-being.”
→ adaptive coping skills: relationship-building, problem-solving, self-care, mindset
“The soul always knows how to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.”
